Self Publishing – A Whole New World

by admin on October 8, 2009

I recently retired from the financial services industry and not a moment too soon in my way of thinking. The stress of managing someone’s money is like raising children–best reserved for younger folks. When my company was acquired last summer, my sister said, “You can’t just sit around and do nothing!” I wondered aloud that doing nothing seemed pretty good after 35 years of the rat race.

She suggested that I look into affiliate marketing and also help with her eBay store. I must admit that I had not heard of affiliate marketing but “how hard could it be?” Every time I’ve ever said that in my life, I’ve always been surprised that it was indeed harder than it looks. Being the type A personality that I am, I proceeded to jump feet first and my journey so far has been very interesting. I hope to share some of that with you in the near future.

Because of my involvement with Internet Marketing, I have met some incredibly smart and very nice people who have taken me under their wing to teach me the ropes. One of these friends, a gal from England transplanted to Louisiana, met me for lunch one day while I was in her vicinity and I picked her brain about how to get a book published. Another friend had written a novel and had no luck getting a publisher to look at it.

Aileen told me about how she self published her book a couple of years ago and she was very pleased with the end result. One thing led to another and I am now a burgeoning self publishing agent for Cindy Bradford and her first novel, Keeping Faith, will be available on Amazon in about a month. In the meantime, I created a blog, a Facebook fan page and a Twitter account for her. She calls me the “Novel Nazi” because I do tend to crack the whip for extra blog posts.

It has been so much fun! Cindy is a hilarious blogger and in less than a month has 130 subscribers and 63 comments on her blog. If you want a good laugh, check out Cindy Bradford Fiction Writer. There will definitely be a huge party when the first books arrive.
